About the project:

The Municipalities Training and Capacity Building Project is a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening local governance in Lebanon by enhancing the effectiveness, inclusivity, and sustainability of municipalities.

Implemented across multiple regions, the project delivers one-day, region-specific training sessions tailored to the unique needs and challenges of each municipality. It places a strong emphasis on youth engagement, recognizing young people as key drivers of local development and future municipal leadership.

Through interactive, community-driven sessions led by experts, practitioners, and local NGOs, the project builds awareness around municipal roles and responsibilities while equipping participants with practical governance, leadership, and development skills. Core themes include youth and women participation in local governance, disaster preparedness, local economic development, and infrastructure and transportation planning.

By fostering collaboration between municipalities, civil society, and local communities, the project contributes to more responsive, resilient, and sustainable municipal development across Lebanon.


Project Breakdown:

Direct funding by ISTIDAMA founders:

  • Fully supported and funded by Istidama, covering program design, coordination, training delivery, and logistical requirements.
Contributions:
  • Local municipalities providing venues, coordination support, and community outreach
  • Local NGOs and civil society organizations contributing expertise, facilitators, and content
  • Experts and speakers delivering specialized training based on thematic focus areas
  • Youth focal points supporting participant mobilization and local engagement

Project Timeline:

  • Project Design & Planning: Identification of priority regions, training themes, and local partners
  • Local Coordination: Engagement with municipalities, NGOs, and youth focal points
  • Training Implementation: One-day, region-specific capacity-building sessions
